Cyclone Gabrielle - Two years on

Between February 11th and February 17th 2023, and with a state of emergency declared on February the 14th, Te Tairāwhiti experienced one of the worst weather events of our generation, and to ever touch our region and country.
For Whāngārā Farms, the destruction of Cyclone Gabrielle was vast and devastating for our business, our livestock, our taiao and our people.
Along with our communities, Whāngārā Farms continues to feel and work through the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle that displaced our hapori, with ongoing work to repair homes, rebuilding damaged roads, bridges and fences, and address ongoing environmental concerns in affected areas.
It will be a long-term process of returning to normalcy after the cyclone’s destruction.
Engari, Whāngārā Farms are incredibly proud of the mahi that has been done to date to get our taiao and farms back on track. The collective mahi of our staff, executive team, volunteers throughout the region, Committees of Management and of course, our people, have contributed to the repairs of affected areas.
Whāngārā Farms would like to thank, and take some time today to remember our local council, emergency services, and residents who worked together to provide essential support, including food, shelter, and medical assistance to affected communities. We also share our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in Cyclone Gabrielle.
